Pictures from a trip from Akureyri to Eastern Iceland in July
2001. We left on July 25th to visit my husbands brother and his family who had
rented a summer house in Eastern Iceland near Egilsstašir and travelled around.
|

First we stopped by Gošafoss
waterfall. Hrafnhildur Lįra didn't like it all to much to much noise. But
she thought it was beautiful never the less. But since there was some kind
of smoke coming up from it she insisted that it must be warm!!! |

Nįmaskarš
was not better. The smell of sulphur was awful and the noise was bad. Then
it was dangerous, you had to take care where to step, else you could just
sink into the boiling clay. It was good to have grandfather at that moment
to take care of a little girl. |

Grandmother was not happy about this. Icelandic kids should not be
afraid of boiling craters or hold their nose so they don't smell the
sulphur. Oh no, this is something to learn and despite crying or
protesting Hrafnhildur Lįra had to walk all over and look at the boiling
craters. In the old days people belived that the devil was down there
boiling, grandma said, Hrafnhildur Lįra thought that was funny;-) |
|

There was no mercy, more craters and no protests. The smell was
horrible but an Icelandic girl should not be bothered. |

Finally Hrafnhildur Lįra could smile and stand on her own and admit
that there is something fashinating about clay craters and one could
survive the smell. Actually she thought it was the most exciting
experience in the trip;-) |

After exhausting experience it was good to drive a bit up to the
highlands on the way from northern Iceland to the eastern. Stop by a river
and have a bit to eat. |
|

Berglind Harpa is grandfathers brother daughter. She is very patient
and went out for a walk to pick some flowers. Hrafnhildur Lįra wanted to
decide where to go and Berglind Harpa just smiled;-) |

Her sister Katla Hrund wanted to focus on a puzzle. Very big, 1500
pieces and had to admit in the end that it was to much for a hobby. But it
was fun while it lasted;-) |

There are many beautiful things around Eastern Iceland. This one is
beautiful and... |
|

Skrišuklaustur is
very special place built like houses in Germany by famous author Gunnar
Gunnarsson. Grandma went there with Žurż while Hrafnhildur Lįra went
with grandpa, Berglind Harpa, Katla Hrund and Bjössi (grandpa's brother)
to fish in Breišdalsvķk.
|

They brought back some trouth that was good on the grill and everyone
enjoyed having a wonderful dinner with the fishermen that came back with
beautiful fish;-) |

The trip came to an end and Hrafnhildur Lįra got some new clothes to
show mom and dad, but she insisted to see the craters again on the way
back;-) |
